About Penny

A career woman who had never planned on being a stay-at-home mom, Penny Ross quit her job as a new mom and embarked upon an entirely different life! Later life again changed dramatically when she and her husband Greg made the decision to teach their children at home instead of sending them out to school.

They have been blessed with three children, whom they homeschooled from kindergarten through high school graduation. During this time, Penny served in a variety of leadership positions at Hope Chapel Academy, her church’s homeschool ministry. After graduating her youngest, she realized she was getting more and more inquires such as “I don’t go to your church but can I ask you about homeschooling?” So at an age when many of her friends were retiring, she opened her own independent consulting business, Tools for the Home Educator.

Through personalized coaching sessions, assistance in selecting teaching materials, and with webinars and online training, Penny shares her passion for and knowledge of homeschooling methods and approaches with the current generation of homeschooling parents. Her specialty is in helping families determine their own vision for home education and then assisting them in mapping a pathway to educational excellence.

Penny and Greg, college sweethearts, have been happily married for 48 years. Their 3 children not only survived homeschooling, but have lived to tell about it. Two are now engineers; one is a linguist and homeschool mom. Penny is a proud “Grammie” to 7; 3 of them are currently being homeschooled.
